Wales Women Defeat Costa Rica In Istria Women’s Cup

Wales senior women’s squad are currently in Croatia playing in the Istria Women’s Cup.

Kylie Davies scored for Wales in their third game to give Wales a 1-0 win to secure the first victory under Jayne Ludlow as National Team Manager. Davies struck the winner at 76 minutes in the Croatian tournament.

Wales had two previous games in the tournament losing 1-0 to France B in the opening game and drawing 0-0 against Bosnia Herzegovina in their second game.

Costa Rica were strong opponents and were very good at the counter attack. However, Wales also threatened during the first half with Loren Dykes hitting the cross bar with a very unlucky shot at goal.

The second half saw strong play from Wales with Helen Bleazard and Laura May Walkley both having efforts at the Costa Rican goal.

Wales then started to pile on more pressure which final sore Kylie Davies strike home to score the only game of the game in the 76th minute.

Wales now play against home opponents Croatia in the 5/6th place play off on the 11th March.
