Brighton striker Ashley Barnes will serve a seven-game ban over his trip on referee Nigel Miller during the recent 1-0 defeat to Bolton.
Barnes was sent off by the official for the incident and, as it was his second dismissal of the season, he was set for an automatic four-game ban.
However, the Football Association charged Barnes on the grounds that his actions "constituted an offence whereby the standard punishment that would otherwise apply was clearly insufficient".
Barnes denied that charge, but a Regulatory Commission ruled against the player and he has been given an additional three-game suspension.
